The studio
Good design is not the same thing as a big budget. Most of what makes a room work — proportion, light, colour, where you put things — costs nothing to get right and a great deal to get wrong.
I’m Elle Whichello, and I design interiors for people who love their houses but can’t quite see what to do with them. That might be a whole renovation, a single room that has never worked, or a holiday let that needs to photograph well and survive a changeover. Fifteen years in, I still think the most useful thing I do is help people spend their money in the right order.

Approach
Colour, used deliberately.
A dark room is rarely improved by white paint. Much of this work is persuading people that the small, north-facing, awkward rooms are exactly the ones that can take a deep colour — and usually become the rooms everyone ends up sitting in.
The same goes for what stays. Flagstones, beams, mullioned windows and cast-iron fireplaces are the reason these houses are worth having. The job is to make them work alongside real life — children, dogs, and somewhere to put the coats — without turning the place into a museum.

Full Design Service
From £1,000
For a whole house, a set of rooms, or a holiday let being brought up to standard. I take it from first survey through to the day the furniture arrives.
- Survey, measurements and a proper brief
- Concept, colours, materials and samples
- Layouts, lighting and a full specification
- Sourcing, ordering and delivery tracking
- Liaison with your builder, joiner or architect
Design Consultation
£250 per visit
Two hours at your house, working through whatever is stuck — colour, layout, lighting, or which of three sofas is the right one. You do the work; I make sure it’s the right work.
- Two hours on site, room by room
- Honest answers on what to spend and what to skip
- Written notes and recommendations afterwards
- Paint, fabric and supplier suggestions
- Fee deducted if you go on to a full project
